Parent Conferences
Parent conferences are next week! I can hardly believe it- time has gone by so quickly! The Fall Festival was so fun and we really did well at our booth! Thanks to all the parents who helped out! We've worked on our map making skills and created a simple relief map so show the water cycle. Our Transportation Presentations were (can I say this?) adorable! They are so proud of their work and love to share what they did, even if they are shy or forget what they've practiced. We're writing a "research" paper on vehicles that travel on water, land or sky. We'll be finishing it up next week. Our portfolios are full of things we made and I can't wait to show them to you at parent conference!

Yippee for our school!
We are having a big school-wide celebration today because we made 903 API score on or state test! This is so exciting and such a big accomplishment we just cant help but shout "Hooray!"
Thanks, in advance, to the parents who are volunteering today to help. We should have a great time!
Just a reminder- students wear their red College of the Desert shirts on Wednesdays and their Cielo Vista polo shirts on Fridays. I'm only staying at the north gate till 3:05. Then we're going back to the room to wait for you. You can enter through the corner gate then. Also, if you have a problem with pick up, you can always text me or call.

Busy, busy...
Wow! The first week went by fast! We were so busy learning new routines and classroom rules. Rule #1 Listen when others are talking. Rule #2 Use a quiet voice inside Rule #3 Follow directions the first time Rule #4 Use everything the right way Rule #5 Never hurt any one on the inside or the outside AND keep your dear teacher happy! We also read the words I, can, am, and red. We cut, glued, painted, wrote, read, counted and drew pictures. We are also doing the beginning of the year assessments. I'll be sending home a report after the assessments are completed. Thanks for being on time and in uniform! Also, starting Monday, parents will say good bye to their student at the gate unless the parent has signed in at the office. Can't wait to see my little students again!

Welcome!
It's a pleasure to start my new kindergarten class! I can't wait to meet everyone! There are so many things to do and say. Tonight is a Parent Orientation to fill parents in on what the new year will be like. I need so many parents to volunteer for so many projects! But my biggest wish for now is that all the students enjoy their kindergarten year and learn to write their name quickly! Our first area of study is an All About Me topic which will include learning about school, behavior, and, of course, our families! Our first project will be a book box and information on that will go home next week. I wish my class a very happy, safe and enlightened year! Yippee!

End of the year...
The end of our school year is drawing to a close! Our Dads and Donuts morning was a lot of fun and it was great seeing all those dads interact with their children. The children were so proud . But the real accomplishment was our Flag Play! The children were amazing and sang like professionals! We loved having our Big Buddies (Mrs Siegrist's class) perform with us. We hope you enjoyed their performance as much as we did. I have to also thank all the parents that helped with our Water day! It was a huge success! The children enjoyed it and so did we! We all had so much fun and I can't thank you enough! Our last activity will be our Promotion Open House on June 26 from 12:00-1:00. It is a simple get together to acknowledge the children and say good-bye. Yes, I will cry. It has been a wonderful year. Thank you.

Field Day! Yippee!
Finally we have Kindy Field day worked out. We are getting a new playground and that upset all our original plans! However, all is not lost- our Field Day is scheduled for Monday, April 22 from 8:30 to 11:30. We really need a lot of parent help that day, so if you don't have your volunteer hours in, this would be a great time to participate! Besides its a fun day for all of us! So about that new playground...I understand work on it will begin May 1st. I'm so happy and thankful we have a fun play yard for our kindy kids thanks to your participation in our popcorn fundraiser ! It allowed us to buy all the toys and play centers for our play yard! Thanks! Our school fundraiser is coming up May 4th. Have you bought a ticket yet? I'm planning on going and I hope to see you there! Last years was marvelous and this years will prove the same! Thanks for all you do to support our school! You're the best!

Ready, set, go!
Vacation time has been lovely, but it's time to get back to school. I've missed my little friends and I can't wait to tell them about the fun stuff coming up! I heard that our big playground is getting a make over, but that means we won't have play equipment for awhile. Next, if all goes well, we will still have Kindy Field Day. We will need a lot of parent volunteers to help that day. If you haven't completed volunteer hours, this is a great way to fulfill that obligation! It's set for April 17. We also are selling tshirts for this day that can be worn as a kindy uniform shirt. Our new unit is about weather and the seasons. We have an in-class project to do, but I may be asking for some pictures depicting different aspects of weather. Enjoy your last few days of vacation, and Happy Easter!

Wow! Where has time gone?
I can't believe it's been so long since I last posted. We made it though the holidays thanks to all my wonderful parents! Wasn't pajama day fun for your child? It's my favorite day of the year, well, that and Field Day. The animal masks and presentations were wonderful and I love how they decorate the room. If you haven't seen them, come on by and take a look. Our new topic is our community. We have a project to do at home where you and your child build a replica (using cereal, shoe boxes or the like) of a building in our community. They children will then present what they have learned about that building and who works in it. We have a fun culminating activity where we get to lay out the buildings to make a map then play in the miniature town! We also have dress up for playing the roles of the workers and other fun stuff. We will write about our community, take a field trip to Living Desert, learn about solid shapes, addition and subtraction concepts, and learn about important people in our community. Parent conference is coming up. Please keep a look out for the sign up sheet. Since I mentioned Field Day, here's more information. We hold a morning where all the PE activities and games they have learned through the year are all played in one day. Each group of students rotates around the field and plays the games. We ask the water company to give us a truck of water, we wear a special No Excuses Field Day T-shirt, and we hand out participation awards at the end. We sell the T-shirt at cost so each child has a T-shirt to keep. The T-shirt can be worn as a uniform shirt for the rest of the year. We need lots of parent volunteers for this day, so please come help! Happy Day!
